Soba Noodles
By Megan Boyd
Our 11th day in Japan was our last day in
Muryama. We said good-bye to our
homestay families in the morning, packed up, and headed out. We hopped on our big bus and were on our way
for one last look at the beautiful city.
One of our main events on this day was making Soba Noodles. Japan is very famous for these interesting
noodles! They can be served cold with
dipping sauce, or in a warm broth. Here,
we were taught how to make our very own soba noodles from scratch! First, we mixed the dough together by hand in
a big bowl. Once it was mixed, we laid
our dough on the table and rolled it out.
When it was thin enough and smooth enough, we folded it up into a
square. Finally, our last step was to
cut it into extremely thin slices, using a huge knife. Once it was all sliced up, we sent it away
with the “chef” to have it cooked. They
all turned out fantastic and we got to eat them for lunch J.
Making soba noodles was a fun experience, one I would love to do again!
